John And Wesley Nygren
Memorial Scholarship Fund

Read an official statement from the Nygren Foundation

Print Scholarship

Purpose:
The purpose of the Fund is to honor the memory of John and Wesley Nygren by providing college scholarships to outstanding high school gymnasts who exemplify the character of Wesley Nygren.  Wesley was a senior in high school and champion gymnast looking forward to collegiate competition when he and his father were killed in an automobile accident in December of 2005. Wesley’s dream was to compete at the collegiate level and to one day earn a spot on the US Olympic team. This scholarship is intended to assist graduating senior gymnasts to follow their dreams in Wesley’s honor.

Criteria:
The students eligible for assistance are high school seniors qualified for or competing in the Northern California Boys Gymnastics Association (NCBGA) gymnastic championship or if such competition ceases to exist, the highest state level of gymnastic competition in the State of California.  The recipient shall be a graduating senior gymnast who has achieved level 8, 9, or 10 and has displayed leadership, commitment, and a desire to learn during his time as a competitive gymnast with the NCBGA.  The scholarship is intended for graduating high school seniors planning to attend college. The recipient need not be continuing in gymnastics at the collegiate level. This is not intended to be a need-based scholarship but is instead focused on the athlete that best exemplifies the traits outlined above.

Guidelines:
Interested athletes must complete an application form for consideration. Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis and disbursed in equal payments in August and January.

Amount:
$500 per semester for tuition, books, supplies and room and board.

Deadline: TBA
Renewal process: Renewable for up to 7 semesters.
